The Deer Rut is over, but we still see many Deer each day on the grounds of the Lake Hotel. It is getting close to the holiday season. We still see the White Tailed Eagles on occasion and one guest recently showed us Otters on his camera phone. All in all the wildlife around the hotel is putting on a show for our Guests.
Watch Wild Eagles fly ofer the Lake Hotel as seen from the breakfast table
Saturday 27th september this stag was roaring beside the breakfast room at the same time we saw two White Tailed Eagles doing a fly bye ! What a sight enjoyed by over 50 hotel guests.
Red Deer Rut 2008 It is that time of the year again when Ireland’s Native Red Deer start Rutting on the shores of Lough Lein and the Lakes of Killarney. At the Lake Hotel we are in the middle of it all, You can hear the Ghost like noises of the Stags roaring from your balcony and the grounds of the hotel. We see the Native red deer on a daily basis somewhere on our grounds. Bring your camera / binoculars or just enjoy observing these Mammals. Take note the only natural predator of the red deer in Killarney is the Lake Hotel Chef !!!! Just kidding !!!
We hope you enjoy the experience of this wild nature at our hotel.
August 2008 White Tailed Sea Eagles
This year we saw the second year and the re-introduction of 22 White Tailed Eagles
On many occasions we have seen the Eagles fly through our lake view panorama at the lake hotel, once even taking a fish out of the lake right in front of our Devil's Punchbowl Bar. It was the first recorded sighting of the Eagles fishing for themselves as they had been fed fish left out for them by Dr. Allan Mee who leads the re-introduction programme for the previous months. We are hopefully some will stay around the hotel right now and we look forward to the day the start to nest. It will be in the Killarney area because it was their point of release, can you imagine with our view of Lakes, Mountains, a castle, Native Red Deer and now the Eagles !!
